Proper Field Care for Game Meat

Remember to always attach the proper tag to your game.

  1. Turn the head of the game uphill as this will permit drainage of any fluid built up in the carcass cavity. It is also easier to handle laying in position shown.
  2. Standing over game cut through the length from the neck and breast bone into exposed windpipe shown here.
  3. Some hunters cut from neck to pelvis. Another idea you might want to try first free gullet from back bone, stop. Move down, split pelvic. Then move to the viscera area. Be very careful cutting through hide. Just reach up and grab the gullet pulling down toward rear of animal as shown here.
  4. When the field dress is complete, remove head and legs and hang in a cool area, then rub all exposed meat inside and out with the patent formula Liquid Game Bag.

Home Care for Good Game Meat

Moving back to illustration 1, if you have just harvested a trophy buck and you wish to keep the head for mounting, follow this diagram.

Cutting at least three inches behind front leg "A" and down ten inches on front leg "B" will give your taxidermist plenty of hide to work with. Then from middle of back towards back of head, follow illustration "C". Then rub the inside of cape with LIQUID GAME BAG. This product will not harm your cape.

Your wild game being skinned and hung in a cool place and clean of hair. Insert a stick in the rib cage. This will help in the cooling process. Blood shot part and excess fat should be removed. Let the game hang for desired aging.

Make sure if hide is removed to cover all areas with LIQUID GAME BAG. If you wish to process you own game, you may split down the length of the back bone.

Next, cut the sides of the carcass as shown below into sections.
(Remember LIQUID GAME BAG will not taint your meat, because this is a U.S. food grade product.) Further trimming of cuts will be necessary before meat is wrapped and frozen.
